about me.png

Art is dynamic. My artistic quest evolves continuously. I still give life to colourful characters from stories (my own or other people's) but I also explore different styles and mediums. My work has matured and I have discovered that I am my own most grateful subject. I seem to get to know myself better through my art. Like Rembrandt and Van Gogh - without wanting to sound pedantic – self-portraits are among my top creations. This surprises me as I am a very shy person and hate talking about myself, yet depicting myself either figuratively or abstractly provides an outlet for the many things I want to say. In this way, I want to provoke people to get to know me as a person.

I am inspired by artists who go their own way. Controversial geniuses who are so convinced of the social relevance and artistic quality of their work, that they do not care about the criticism bestowed on their creations. Ironically, it is usually controversy that makes people think and engages the man in the street with the lofty world of unconventional art. Think about Yayoi Kusama's happenings or Jan Fabre's ham pillars. To me, lowering the threshold for people to react to or interact with art, constitutes a real achievement.

As of late, I favour monochromatic and greyscale hues over the colourful palette I used in my earlier work, especially for more introspective work created with paper and pencil. As a child of the digital age, my ipad and macbook are my most prized possessions and essential tools for the enduring pursuit of my artistic ambitions.
